Some UK businesses and experienced PC users still depend on older computers or applications designed for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Replacing a working workstation can also mean having to change established software and equipment. Windows 8.1 Professional provides the familiar Microsoft desktop environment for these specific situations. It combines a traditional desktop with a taskbar and Start button alongside a touch-friendly Start screen with live-style tiles. Snap allows compatible applications to appear side by side, while File History provides a built-in way to back up personal files.
This edition is intended for people who need to reinstall an existing Windows 8.1 computer, maintain legacy business software or operate a dedicated machine that depends on this operating system. Microsoft ended Windows 8.1 support on 10 January 2023. It no longer receives security updates and current web browsers no longer support it. It should therefore be reserved for offline or isolated environments rather than everyday internet use. For most buyers with compatible hardware, Windows 11 Pro is the recommended choice.
Windows 8.1 Professional offers additional administration and encryption capabilities for business environments and advanced users.
Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and User Account Control are also included. These built-in components do not provide current security protection following the end of Microsoft support.
Your purchase includes one genuine new Windows 8.1 Professional licence for one PC or laptop. This is a one-time licence, not a recurring subscription. There are no alternative editions or licence variants on this product page. The licence is intended for a single installation. Choose it when your existing hardware or software specifically requires Windows 8.1 Professional.
