Description

Start digital painting with confidence

Want to turn photographs into paintings or try digital art without learning a complicated professional application first? Corel Painter Essentials 8 is beginner-focused painting software for Windows and macOS, based on Corel Painter technology. It provides an accessible starting point for hobby artists, photography enthusiasts and anyone interested in experimenting with digital painting. Whether you want to transform a landscape photograph, create a painted portrait or draw an original picture, you have a selection of practical tools in one application.

Photo painting with AI

The software includes 10 AI Styles for automatically painting portraits, still-life images and landscapes. There are also 10 AI presets to help you choose a suitable visual treatment. Auto-Painting, cloning and tracing paper provide additional ways to turn photographs into painted images. You can use a source photo as a starting point and experiment with different painting approaches.

Brushes and painting tools

Corel Painter Essentials 8 includes more than 150 built-in brushes. The selection features 23 new painting brushes and additional options for photo painting, auto-painting and touch-up. Other brush types include glazing brushes, pens, pencils, chalk, sponges, markers and particles. Sargent brushes can operate up to four times faster. The software also handles large canvases, zooming, rotation and large brushes.

For colour selection, you have a colour wheel, colour mixer, Color Harmonies and Color Sets. The application includes 35 patterns, including five new additions, 32 papers and 14 flow maps. Mirror painting and kaleidoscope painting provide further ways to create symmetrical designs. The Drawing and Painting layout, improved layers and document controls help organise your projects.

Learning resources included

If digital painting is new to you, the built-in learning resources provide guidance as you begin. A Quick Start Guide introduces the application, while Corel's Painter Essentials tutorials cover useful techniques and functions. You can gradually become familiar with the brushes, painting options and image controls at your own pace.
